 2007 Portland Rose Festival

June 6th - June 10th, 2007
Ships from the United States Navy, Coast Guard, and the Canadian Maritime Forces arrive from around the world for a four-day visit to the City of Roses. Fleet visitation has been an annual tradition for nearly 70 years.

The USS Charleston was the first ship to visit the Portland Rose Festival in 1907. Canadian Maritime Forces began visiting the Rose Festival in 1924 and continue to bring ships each year. The Battleship USS Oregon visited the Rose Festival in its final tour before decommissioning in 1925. The mast of the USS Oregon now resides in Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

 2007 Crew/Coxswain Academy

2007 Coxswain and Crew AcademyThe 2007 Boat Crew & Coxswain Academy concluded on 28 & 29 April with one Coxswain and six Boat Crew members passing their qualification reviews - just in time to volunteer their new skills for the Rose Festival activities!

The Academy lasted 14 weeks, beginning in late January. While this year's class was smaller in total number of candidates, it graduated a higher percentage than 2006. The Academy is an optional way for members to attain their Boat Crew and/or Coxswain qualification and requires intense study and work - both in the class room and on the water during the 14 week session.

Flotilla 73 has sponsored and staffed the Academy for the past two years with classes open to all Division members. Valuable assistance was provided by USCG members of Sector and Station Portland as well as volunteer mentors from Division 07 Flotillas.

Thanks to all who helped make the 2007 Academy a success and congratulations to all members who participated, especially those who attained their new qualification.

Bravo Zulu to all our newly qualified Auxiliarists!
